Who is responsible for this website?

I Want to Know is the trading name used on this website.

Information used when you place an order

When you buy a book we use the information needed to process and fulfil the order. This can include your name, email address, delivery address, the books and quantities ordered, shipping service, prices, order status and payment references.

Payment is handled through Stripe-hosted Checkout. I Want to Know does not receive or store your full card details. We retain Stripe references and payment status so that we can identify and manage the order.

Delivery information may be provided to the postal or courier service used to fulfil your order.

Contact messages

If you use the Contact page, the information you enter is sent by email so that we can reply. The I Want to Know contact form does not keep a separate copy of the message contents in the WordPress database by default.

Optional marketing

At checkout you may choose to receive occasional I Want to Know news about new videos, books and future events. The box is unticked by default and is not required to purchase.

If you opt in, we keep a record of the choice, when it was made, the wording shown and the related order reference. You can withdraw that choice by contacting us.

Anonymous site statistics

I Want to Know uses its own anonymous statistics system to understand how the website is being used and where it can be improved. The information is collected by this website rather than being sent to Google Analytics or an advertising tracker.

The statistics can include anonymous browser sessions, page views, landing pages, active-time estimates, the referring domain, coarse device/browser/operating-system information, broad country or region where locally available, broken-page requests and recognised automated traffic.

The statistics system does not store readable IP addresses, names, email addresses, WordPress account IDs, form contents or URL query strings. An IP address may be used momentarily by the server for an exclusion or coarse local location check, but the readable address is not retained by the statistics system.

A small Anonymous statistics: On/Off control is available at the bottom-right of public pages. Choosing Off stops further statistics collection for that browser and removes the current anonymous statistics session.

Cookies and browser storage

The shopping cart uses a necessary cookie set by this website so that it can remember which books you have placed in your basket. It is used for the shopping process and is removed when the cart is cleared or expires.

The statistics control uses browser session storage for its temporary anonymous session and local storage to remember your statistics choice and whether the information panel has already been shown. These storage settings are used by this website.

Why we use information

We use personal information where it is needed to process and deliver an order, answer an enquiry, keep appropriate business and accounting records, protect the website from misuse, or meet legal obligations. Optional marketing is based on the choice you make at checkout.

Who may process information for us?

Depending on what you do on the site, information may be processed by our website host, email-delivery provider, Stripe for payment processing, and the postal or courier service used to deliver an order. We only provide information needed for the relevant service.

How long is information kept?

Order and transaction records are kept for as long as reasonably required for fulfilment, customer service, accounting, tax and other legal obligations. Email correspondence is kept according to normal business email-retention needs. Anonymous website statistics are automatically removed according to the retention period configured in the statistics system.

Your choices and rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to ask for access to personal information, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to some uses. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent.

We may update this policy when the website, services or legal requirements change. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version.
